Twelve plus

About twenty secondary school children come to the LFLB centre for after-school care. Two or three times a week they study subjects like world-orientation, English and Communication Skills and there is a lot of attention for personal guidance. Set themes are career guidance, developing personal talents, world citizenship and diversity. Thanks to a relationship of trust that has been built up over years, young adolescents can come up with all their questions and experiences to teachers and peers. Difficult topics are made accessible by acting them out in self-made plays, with a lot of fun and laughter.

(My sister Nengah Noasih and I, Wayan Rona joined when we started junior highschool. We are from a very poor family in Julah. I was very shy then and didn’t dare to show much of myself. At LFLB I learned a lot in all areas and also to speak publicly and to think creatively but critically. Mistakes are there to learn from and learning is great. At school it was noticed how much progression my sister and made. That is why eventually we received a scholarship from the government to study economics at Jakarta University. We have nearly graduated now. We will be forever grateful to the foundation for the opportunity we got, thanks to you. Love, Rona and Nasih)
