Foundation

The Foundation LFLB has been closely cooperating with the Balinese sister foundation Gema Ripah, which means: ‘place of security and perspective’. . The main purpose of both foundations is to offer security and perspective to children. The task of the Dutch Foundation lies in fundraising, while the Balinese Foundation takes care of daily operations.

LFLB has been active since 1999 under the name of ‘Foundation Fundraising Pacung Bali’. Founders Frank van Akkeren and Marga van Akkeren- Brink were motivated by the aim to offer support to children who had insufficient opportunities for good (secondary) education due to lack of means. Their initiative caught on and was highly appreciated. When the Indonesian Government decided to make nursery education obligatory, Frank and Marga were asked to use their experience in helping to start a kindergarten in Pacung.

They formed a team together with motivated and talented local women and men. This created the foundation for internal teacher training and parent coaching. Some of the original teachers still work in the now 14-member team that has operated independently since 2017.

Over the past twenty years the cooperation between the Balinese and Dutch Foundation partners has grown into a successful educational centre :

  • where 150 children a year participate in the ‘learning by understanding programme’
  • where (grand)parents are involved in the development of their (grand) child.
  • where over thirty young, newly graduated teachers received training on the job course;
  • where over fourteen employees got a paid job
  • where alumni started new centres elsewhere in Bali.
